NOTICE OF MEETING – HOUSE COMMITTEE ON FINANCE

DATE:Thursday, February 04, 2016
TIME: 2:00 PM and continuing at the Rise
PLACE: Room 35 – State House

SCHEDULED FOR HEARING AND/OR CONSIDERATION

House Bill No.7192 – BY Morgan, Roberts, Price, Reilly, Filippi
ENTITLED, AN ACT RELATING TO PUBLIC FINANCE — BRIDGE REPAIRS (Establishes a bridge works restricted receipt account to fund the maintenance and repair of bridges located within the state with various source of funding.)

It is important to know that House Bill No.7192 introduced by Representative Patricia Morgan – “is to establish a budgetary receipt account only” NOT passage of the House Republican Pay-as-you-go GOP’s Policy Plan.

* Note: According to the information Fed Up in RI received from the State House legislative office, if this Bill (H-7192) is passed, only a budgetary account would be created (nothing more). Then, Representative Morgan would be required to submit a new House Bill requesting a “Budgetary Amendment” be placed in the Governor’s Budget – as a new Article included into the Budget – which would have to be passed by the House Finance Committee again, and approved by the full House. If the new Budget Amendment is passed by the House – only then, would the GOP Pay-as-you-go Plan actually be established.

Unfortunately, upon Fed Up’s inquiry into the criteria under which this Bill has been introduced – we believe the likelihood of this failed set-up process will surely render it to defeat. Although Fed Up in RI has and fully continues to support the House GOP Plan, the truth is, it probably has as much of a chance at passing as the alternative Plan we satirically propose in our meme!

Maybe that’s why Representative Patricia Morgan is also sponsoring House Bill No.7340 – for The RI Center for Freedom and Prosperity “to establish privatization of Infrastructure at the state level under the ALEC Public-Private Partnership (P3) Authority Act. ” (Which Fed Up in RI continues to Oppose as seen in related links below)

So, if the House ‘elected’ Republican’s plan is never heard… it will only be useful for campaign brochures! That is why now more than ever – your voices are needed, so please take a moment to call or email your legislators and demand that they support Rep. Patricia Morgan’s plan adopted by the House GOP which DOES NOT INCLUDE TOLLS OR P3 ‘PRIVATIZATION’….
“The Republican Policy Group’s pay-as-you-go plan calls for a reasonable re-prioritization of spending taxpayer dollars. The Republican group’s plan is a win-win. It does not bury taxpayers in debt, provides more money for bridge repair, and costs less than the Governor’s plan over a 10-year period. There is no reason bridge repair cannot be funded from current revenues with a budget the size of RI’s.”
